Description
Winter is the time to go looking for American Tree Sparrows. In winter, American Tree Sparrows often forage industriously in small flocks. Their bicolored bill and central breast spot help them stand out from other sparrows. These hardy birds often continue foraging undaunted as winter blizzards roll in. Individuals may take solitary perches on low branches or atop stalks. This sparrow nests and winters farther north than any of its close relatives.
