Description
At the tail end of winter, fuzzy nubs start to appear along the branches of pussy willows. These soft silver tufts resemble tiny cats’ paws and are actually flowers just before they fully bloom. They signal the last throes of winter and the brink of spring. Pussy willows can be found throughout much of North America. The flowering shoots of pussy willow are used both in Europe and America for spring religious decoration on Palm Sunday, as a replacement for palm branches, which do not grow that far north.
