The Great Salt Lake, located in the northern part of the U.S. state of Utah, is the largest salt water lake in the Western Hemisphere, and the eighth-largest terminal lake in the world. In terms of surface area, it is the largest lake in the United States that is not part of the Great Lakes region. Although it has been called "America's Dead Sea", the lake provides habitat for millions of native birds, brine shrimp, shorebirds, and waterfowl.
Great Salt Lake is definitely a worthwhile boating destination. It has a variety of islands that you can explore, each with their own history. The Great Salt Lake State Marina is a state park in Salt Lake County, Utah, United States. The park is located at an elevation of 4200 feet, on the south shore of the Great Salt Lake, 16 miles west of Salt Lake City. The park features a 300 slip marina along with a boat ramp, and is popular for swimming, and picnicking. It is home to the Great Salt Lake Yacht Club.
