Central America, Costa Rica. Tortuguero National Park. Long-nosed bats roosting on a tree trunk along canal. Costa Rica is full of animals. There are at least 111 species of bats. Isn't that bad for such a small area? As their name reveals, Long-Nosed Bats have a distinctively long, pointed nose. For this reason they are also commonly called Proboscis Bats. In Costa Rica they are found throughout the Pacific and Caribbean lowlands, nearly always within 30 meters of running water.
