Description
Khreshchatyk, the main street of the city, is neither the oldest nor the longest street in Kiev. The street is 1.2 kilometers (0.75 miles) long. It is believed that the name Khreshchatyk comes from the Slavic word cross or chrest. It is located in a valley that is crossed by several ravines. Viewed from above, the valley resembles a cross. Khreshchatyk unites the Bessarabsky market and the European square. There are many public buildings along the street. On the left, we see the Central Department Store (TSUM). The main part of the street is only for pedestrians on weekends and holidays. The lack of movement contrasts sharply with everyday life in Khreshchatyk. Taken in 2017
