Description
The very attractive barn swallow, glistening cobalt blue above and tawny below, is one of the most widely distributed swallow species in the world and is commonly found throughout North America and the southern United States. True to their name, they build their cup-shaped mud nests almost exclusively on human-made structures. The nest of a barn swallow is unique in that it is attached to a vertical structure and the nest cup, is made of individual mud pellets. The cup of the nest is lined with fine grass, hair, and feathers. Both sexes construct the nest in one to two weeks. Taken in Washington State.
