Description

The official name is Notre-Dame Roman Catholic Church / Basilica National Historic Site of Canada. Montreal's oldest Catholic church, built in 1656, is known for its intricately designed interior. The vaults are colored deep blue and decorated with golden stars, and the rest of the sanctuary is decorated in blues, azures, reds, purples, silver, and gold, stirring the soul. It is filled with hundreds of intricate wooden carvings and several religious statues. The interior of the basilica is dark yet the altar area glows with blue and gold.
