Artist's Description
Hoopoes are colorful birds found across Africa, Asia, and Europe, notable for their distinctive "crown" of feathers. The hoopoe gets its English name from the sound it makes while singing. This bird has a black and white barred tail and wings, a creamy, peach-colored body, a long, thin beak, and most notably a large crest of feathers tipped in black and white on the top of its head. Hoopoe raises its crest when excited. A crown makes the bird unappealing to predators and may play a role in protecting against feather parasites. Its wings are short and rounded and it flies in an undulating motion that is said to be similar to butterfly flight. Over most of its range, the hoopoe is a protected bird and it is illegal to harm or kill it. Captured in Israel.

Photography has been a big part of my life for many years, and as I get older, it is becoming more so.
