Description
From a distance, this cactus looks all soft and cuddly, so it is nicknamed the teddy bear cactus. Chollas are the favorite nesting sites for many birds. They are not so spiny that the birds are in danger, but spiny enough to protect them from many predators. Cylindropuntia bigelovii, the teddy bear cholla, is a cholla cactus species native to Northwestern Mexico, and to the United States in California, Arizona, and Nevada.
