Description
The agouti or common agouti is any of several rodent species of the genus Dasyprocta. Agoutis are found in forested and wooded areas in Central and South America. The Mexican agouti is a species of rodent native to Mexico. It is rated Critically Endangered on the IUCN's red list. In Mexico, the agouti is called the sereque. Mexican agoutis have rounded backs and long, thin legs adapted for running. Most species are brown on their backs and whitish or buff on their bellies; the fur may have a glossy appearance and then glimmers in orange color. Their tails are short and hairless. When eating, agoutis sit on their hind legs and hold food between their fore paws. Taken in Mexico.
